Artist Description: Matt Laws is the founder of Binary Finary and writer of the seminal Trance classic '1998'.
Press Release: Born 1972, driven mad by Thomas Dolby 'Hyperactive', spending his youth writing music sequences on a simple ZX Spectrum (Yes, it was possible). The principal writer for Binary Finary since its conception in 1995 and multi-instrumentalist with experience covering everything from garage bands to modern composition techniques. Matts' pre-history to Binary Finary is a grounding in most standard instruments with a focus on practice and performance with guitar (on the far left), bass & drums. This led to a life full of music and a lot of recording practice. A stint in Tears for Fears' studio the 'Wool Hall' led to Matts' first exposure to synths and analogs (the prophet 5/10, linn drum machines etc...) - he spent time putting together chillout and layered synth noises on the quiet while 'making the tea' The seeds were sown at this point for the need to use this type of creative equipment - but during the era of lead guitar solos and anti-synthesizer attitudes of the time - It took a good few years of working in music shops to learn the ropes behind most of the equipment of the time (which is now all software) and put all this into practice. '1998' (a massive classic trance tune that still remains very popular) is the tune that made Binary Finary famous and created quite a stir and spawned many, many remixes that some were not in the bands control, probably the most remixed trance track ever. Matt went onto many other projects including a fine sample library that enabled Reason users to be ultra-portable and have access to lush pads, kicking drums, stock basses, wicked leads and percussion to die for and now Spiralking.com - a label to release material that is different to '98' The Drift got a great review and is a featured track on TrackItDown - read the review here. ArmadaMusic have re-released the Binary Finary catalog with remixes due out from name DJs from 2009 onwards. Be prepared for some amazing news with the Binary Finary Project happening 2009 onwards.
